Each author must provide BOTH a printed and electronic version of i) the paper, 12 page maximum length, and ii) the extended abstract, 1 page. The hard copy version of the paper is used to ensure the electronic conversion is achieved correctly. The electronic version of the extended abstract will be made part of the Conference Web Page.

and consists of:
Length: 12 pages with figures.
Page Format: 8-1/2in by 11in, 2-column format. Here is a picture of the layout.
Margins:
Justification: Center title. Headings are flush left. The text is flush left and right justified.
Indentation: Indent each paragraph 1/4 in (0.6cm).
Pagination: Number each page at the center of the bottom margin, including page 1.

Line spacing:
Author affiliations: Center affiliations under the authors name. List academic department or company division, university or company name, postal address, city, state (spelled out), zip code, country name, telephone, fax, and e-mail.
Multiple author positioning: Try to position two or three authors and affiliations across the title page within the specified margins. For four authors, position two across the page with two blank lines between the end of the affiliations of the first two and the names of the second two.
Text Citation: Citations in the body of the paper use the last name of the author and the year of publication of the reference enclosed in parentheses, as follows: "It was shown by Prusa (1983) that the width of the plume decreases under these conditions." or "It has been shown that the width of the plume decreases under these conditions (Prusa, 1983)." In the case of two authors, use both last names separated by ``and''. For three or more authors, use the last name of the first author and ``et al.'' If two or more references have the same author(s) and the same year of publication, distinguish the references by appending a lowercase letter ``a'' to the year of publication of the first cited, a letter ``b'' to the second cited, etc.
Reference List: References to original sources for cited material should be listed together at the end of the paper; footnotes should not be used for this purpose. Each reference should begin with the last name of each author followed by his initials. Arrange the list in alphabetical order. The heading "References" is in Helvetica Bold 10pt. The entries are in Times Roman 10pt.
(1) Reference to journal articles, papers in conference proceedings, or any other collection of works by numerous authors should include: year of publication, full title of the cited article, full name of the publication in which it appeared, volume number, inclusive page numbers of the cited article.
(2) Reference to textbooks, monographs, theses, and technical reports should include: year of publication, full title of the publication, publisher, city of publication, inclusive page numbers of the work being cited.
Titles of books, periodicals, and conference proceedings should be in italics.

Authors unable to provide an electronic version of their final manuscripts should contact ASME publications manager Janet Weinrib at (212) 705-7696 or weinribj.staff@asme.org.
ASME has contracted with a "conversion house" to convert the electronic version of each paper to a standard PDF format used by the CD-ROM software. This contractor has access to many different wordprocessing and drawing packages and can be flexible in adapting to the needs of various authors.
However, to streamline the submission and conversion process, and to minimize the potential for errors, ASME makes the following recommendations.
Wordprocessing: The recommended software is Word or WordPerfect for either Macintosh or Windows based personal computers (the highest version available to you). Provide the paper in BOTH the native formatted version AND an EPS formatted version. This provides redundancy in case there are any problems.
If you do not have access to Word or WordPerfect. Save the file in i) its native format, ii) the EPS format (if available), AND iii) either:
Examples of wordprocessing software for which this should be successful are:
The ASME has prepared a new LaTeX style file with a banner that identifies the conference. This style file is on the diskette that arrives in your authors kit. I have modified this style file slightly and attached it here:
Open these locations and save the files. Some additional modifications of the style file may be required. Contact "jmmccart@uci.edu" if you need assistance.
Drawing: Graphics should be saved using TIFF or PICT formats, if possible. Most native bitmap formats should be useable.
Graphics can also be submitted in the formats: PC Paintbrush (PCX), Ventura Publisher (IMG and GM), Windows Bitmap (BMP), Windows MetaFile (WMF), and WordPerfect (WPG).
If necessary, the following formats can be used as alternatives: AutoCad (DXF), Harvard Graphics (CGM), Lotus Freelance (CGM) and Lotus (PIC).
